Troubleshooting

Episode speakers and subwoofers are designed to function trouble-free. Most problems that occur are due to simple issues. If you’re having trouble, check the list of issues below. If the problem persists, visit snp1.co/techsupport.

No audio from only one channel or one zone?

  • Check the connections of the speaker wire at both the speaker and amplifier. Power the amp off before making any changes.

No audio output from more than one channel?

  • Check the connections of the speaker wire at both the speaker and amplifier. Power the amp off before making any changes.

  • The cable connecting the source to the amplifier is not connected properly or is defective. Check the connections or replace the cable (with the amplifier powered off) with a cable that has been verified as good.

No audio output from any channel?

  • Verify that the amplifier is powered on.

  • Check the volume levels on the amplifier and source.

  • Make sure that the cable between the source and amplifier is connected properly. If it is, replace the cable with the amplifier powered off.

  • Verify that the source is outputting audio.

Hearing a hum or buzzing sound?

  • Check the RCA input cables by removing them one at a time (powering down the amplifier before disconnecting) and check if a connection or cable is to blame.

Distorted audio (cracking, popping, sound is unclear) on only one audio source?

  • Check the amplifier input gain settings for the source that is distorted. Setting the gain too high can cause distortion. Reduce the settings until the distortion goes away.

Distorted audio (cracking, popping, sound is unclear) on all audio sources?

  • Check the amplifier input gain settings for each source. Setting the gain too high can cause distortion. Reduce the settings until the distortion goes away.

  • Check the amplifier output level settings for each channel. Setting the output level too high can cause distortion. Reduce the output level until the distortion goes away.

  • Check crossover frequency settings. Settings that are too low for the speaker size can cause distortion.

  • Check DSP/equalizer settings. Incorrect settings can cause distortion.

  • Check rated power for speakers. Too much or too little power can cause distortion and damage the speakers or amplifier.

Distorted audio (cracking, popping, sound is unclear) in one area?

  • Follow the steps above for input gain and output level settings. If this does not correct the issue, then move on to the following:

  • Check volume controls in the affected area. Check for correct impedance match settings and power handling specifications. Adjust settings or replace volume control with appropriate type.
