General Questions
When will X4 Early Access be available to partners?
X4 will move into Early Access for partners on April 15, 2025.
When will X4 be available to end-users?
X4 will move into General Availability on June 4th.
Will Connect be required for X4?
Yes, Connect is necessary to enable all X4 features.
What happens if their Connect expires on X4?
The customer will lose access to intercom anywhere, notifications, routines, smart voice assistants, and the mobile app. Touch screens and halo remotes will continue to work locally.
Will legacy 4Sight customers need to migrate to Connect to use X4?
Yes, existing 4Sight users must transition to a Connect subscription before upgrading to X4.
Is a Core controller required for X4?
No, while a Core controller paired with X4 delivers the best experience, EA and CA series controllers fully support X4.
What controllers support OS4?
All current controllers are supported: Core, CA, and EA series.
Will there be an upgrade wizard like OS3 to guide the upgrade process?
No, there will not be an upgrade report for X4 (4.0) since no devices are reaching End-of-Life (EOL) in this release. However, X4 (4.1) will include some hardware devices going EOL, which must be removed before upgrading.
What devices will go End-of-Life in X4 (4.1)?
T3 Touch Screens, the On-Screen Experience for EA Controllers, and Gen 1 and 2 lighting devices.
Dealer and Support Questions
How do my customers (Dealers) get signed up for X4 Early Access?
There is no formal sign-up process. The partner will need to update to Composer Pro 4.0, migrate their showroom and accounts to Connect, and kick-off the OS upgrade through Composer Pro.
Will there be an easy way to assess what a client needs to upgrade?
Yes, OvrC will provide a dashboard showing upgrade eligibility and required changes.
Can dealers transfer systems to new owners more easily?
A streamlined transfer process is in development, but currently, transfers still require OvrC.
Will showroom accounts need Connect for X4?
Yes, each showroom will need to be migrated to a new account created through OvrC and then they can apply a Connect Demo license.
Will Connect be required for X4 with dealer accounts?
Yes, a Connect or Connect Demo plan is required for all accounts to use X4.
How will Connect pricing work for dealers?
Each dealership receives five free Connect Demo Plans for internal use. Additional demo plans require Sales VP approval.
Will there be a lifetime Connect subscription option?
No lifetime plans currently, but multi-year options are being explored.
What is the one-time discount on Connect for 4Sight subscribers?
Customers with an active 4Sight subscription are eligible for a one-time discount on Connect based on how much time remains on their 4Sight plan:
- More than 12 months remaining – 75% off Connect
- 6 to 12 months remaining – 50% off Connect
- Less than 6 months remaining – 25% off Connect
- Less than 1 month remaining – No discount
The discount is automatically applied when the customer upgrades through the app.
Hardware and Compatibility
Will the T3 Touch Screens work with X4?
Yes, but only with the OS 3 User Interface. They will be required to be removed before a system can update to the next version of X4 (4.1) as they are not supported in X4 (4.1) and beyond.
What is "Gen 2 Lighting," and will it be supported in X4?
Gen 2 Lighting refers to an older generation of Zigbee lighting devices, which will not be supported in X4.1 and will need to be removed.
Will panelized lighting be compatible with X4?
Yes, panelized lighting systems will continue to work with X4.
Software and Features
Can routines be customized and programmed in Composer?
Yes, routines appear in Composer like a driver and can be programmed. Best practice is to use macros for custom programming.
Can users hide or lock routines?
Yes, this can be managed through the Access Agent.
Will When/Then automation still be available?
Yes, When/Then will continue to function with X4.
Is the Home Screen customizable?
Yes, it can be modified to display as much or as little information as desired through the Home Screen agent, favorites, and widgets.
Can the Home Screen be hidden for users who prefer room focused views like in OS 3?
Yes, this can be done through the Access Agent.
Will there be changes to the Composer software?
No major changes to Composer Pro, but X4 introduces three new agents (Home Screen, Routines, Timeline) for enhanced customization.
Integrations and Streaming
How does HomeKit/Siri integration compare to Josh.ai?
Siri integration provides system control along with room awareness when using HomePods, but is currently more limited on direct media control. Voice scenes are the solution to work around this.
Will HomeKit and Siri work on EA controllers if an SA-1 is added?
Yes, they can be used with EA controllers if an SA-1 is included in the project. The only controller that can’t support HomeKit is the CA-1.
Will AirPlay 2 be supported without an SA-1?
At launch, AirPlay 2 will require an SA-1.
Is Spotify native in X4?
No, Spotify will remain limited to Spotify Connect with no change in functionality.
Will third-party cameras work with X4 widgets?
Yes, but compatibility varies by model.
