How to Upgrade a Preexisting Control4 System to Connect, Assist, or Assist Premium

  Pre-requisites

  • The Control4 controller must be running OS 3.4.2 or higher.

  • If the customer's email is being used in another OvrC Location, you must use a new email address to upgrade the account to Control4 Connect.

  • You must link your my.control4.com account to OvrC. Read How to register a Control4 Controller in OvrC for instructions.

Warning: Your OvrC account must use the same my.control4.com account that the customer is registered under.

  • This process does not modify the project. All your configurations and devices remain intact.

  • The customer can decline the upgrade.

  • If the Customer already has Control4 Connect you cannot use this process to upgrade them to Assist or Assist Premium.

  • You cannot revert to a legacy 4Sight subscription after upgrading an account to Control4 Connect.

  • Customers with more than one month of 4Sight remaining on their accounts at the time of the software update to X4 will receive a one-time discount on their first year of Connect based on the number of months of 4Sight remaining:

    • 25% Discount: 1 – 5 months remaining balance of 4Sight

    • 50% Discount: 6 – 11 months remaining balance of 4Sight

    • 75% Discount: 12+ months remaining balance of 4Sight (Inc. multiple years)

How to invite an OvrC Customer to a Subscription Plan

  1. Verify the controller is registered in customer.control4.com.

  2. Create a new OvrC Customer Location and claim the controller on the Devices tab > Add Device.

  3. Navigate to the Categories tab > Control & Automation tab and verify the Status says "Controller registered."

  4. Click the Invite to Subscription Plan link. If it's greyed out, read Troubleshooting Control4 Connect registration issues for help.

  5. Choose a service plan option, then click Send Invite. For more information on this process, read How to hand-off a Control4 Customer in OvrC.

Caution: If this is a Connect Demo plan system, complete the Connect purchase options in the Control4 mobile app after providing a demo code. Demo codes cannot be applied once a payment plan has been accepted until the next annual renewal period.

Accepting the upgrade in the Control4 mobile app

Connect/Assist upgrades must be accepted in the Control4 mobile app. Be sure to use the mobile app for the OS the system is currently running (OS3 or 4). The instructions below use screen shots from the OS4 mobile app, but the process is the same for both.

To accept the upgrade:

  1. Open the Control4 mobile app.

  2. An Optimize Your System page appears. Tap Begin Upgrade to complete the process, or tap Not Now to complete the upgrade later, or choose not to upgrade at all.

Note: The system may take a minute to push the Optimization process to the app. If you don't see this screen, force close the app and reopen it. If force-closing does not work, reset the Control4 app by going to SettingsAccounts & Services and clicking the trash icon in the upper right corner.

  1. The mobile app displays information about Control4 Connect. They tap Next.

  2. There's an option to add an Assist or Assist Premium plan. If they do not wish to add either, they can select Decline. Then tap Next.

Caution: If this is a demo plan, Decline this option.

  1. Follow the the on-screen instructions to finish enrollment or view the Knowledge Hub to learn more about Control4.

FAQ

Why is the Invite to subscription plan option disabled?

There’s a sync issue. Contact support to resolve the issue.

What if I have customers and locations with a dealer of record spread across multiple Control4 accounts?

If the customer’s Dealer of Record is different from the Control4 account linked to your OvrC account, ask the customer to update their Smart Home Pro in customer.control4.com. Otherwise, you cannot invite them to Control4 Connect or unregister/re-register the account.

Can I have multiple OvrC accounts tied to the same Control4 account?

Yes. This is uncommon, but there are some instances where it makes sense for a business to have multiple OvrC accounts.
