Troubleshooting VLANs

I can’t access a network device after changing settings

  • If you're using Inter-VLAN Routing, verify that it is enabled for both devices’ VLAN IDs.

  • If you're not using inter-VLAN Routing, check the IP address of your computer versus the inaccessible network device. They must be in the same subnet to allow communication. (Ex. 192.168.010.106; bold must match)

  • If you're attempting to access the router's local user interface, verify your computer is connected to the VLAN ID with Device Management enabled.

I can’t access the internet from a client device

  • Go to the router's LAN settings and verify the WAN configuration for the VLAN ID is correct.

  • Turn off any route binding settings to determine if the WAN connection is the issue.

My devices are not being issued an IP address

  • In the router's LAN settings, verify that the DHCP server is configured to issue enough addresses for all connected devices.

  • Reset the client device’s network settings and verify that it is set to DHCP.

With Inter VLAN Routing correctly enabled, one or more devices are not communicating correctly between VLANs

The Inter VLAN Routing feature may not support the specific protocol being used between the devices. This may include Bonjour, mDNS, and TCP forwarding.
